Mapping Applications:

 

To the best of our knowledge, “Charles B Wang Center, Stony Brook University” and “Hilton Garden Inn Stony Brook” both work as points of interest for navigation (driving, public transit and walking) in both Google Maps and Apple Maps. They will be helpful in planning your trip.

 

Domestic flights:

 

The local airport is Long Island Islip-MacArthur Airport is 16 miles from the Stony Brook University main campus and is serviced by direct flights from some U.S. cities by three “low-cost” carriers – Breeze airways, Southwest airlines and Frontier airlines.

 

However, you may prefer to use New York City Area Airports (JFK and LaGuardia) are ~50 miles to the west, due to various reasons including flight costs and connectivity. 

 

Note that Newark Liberty international airport is farther away (75-85 miles depending on the route) and travel takes longer due to the fact that you need to enter and exit NYC.

 

International Flights:

 

We recommend that international travelers arrive via the JFK airport. Canadian travelers may also opt to fly into  LaGuardia airport.

From JFK Airport

• Drive: 60-90 min, depending on the traffic (Map)

• Train: Approx. 2 hr, take the JFK AirTrain to Jamaica station, and Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Port Jefferson train to Stony Brook, and then walk/take the shuttle. A free shuttle service is available from Stony Brook Station to the conference hotel – Hilton Garden Inn. We recommend that you use Google/Apple Maps to navigate.

From LaGuardia Airport

• Drive: 60-90 min, depending on the traffic (Map)

• Train: Almost 2 hr 30 min, depending on time and the available train options. We recommend that you use Google/Apple Maps to navigate.

• Lyft/Uber service is available.

 

From Long Island MacArthur Airport – Islip Airport

• Drive: Almost 30 min, depending on the traffic (Map)

• Train: Not available

• Lyft/Uber service is available.

 

By Car

We recommend that you use Google maps and “Charles B Wang Center, Stony Brook University” or “Hilton Garden Inn Stony Brook” as points of interest to search and navigate. By Train

Stony Brook Station is located along the Long Island Rail Road, Port Jefferson line. From Penn Station in Manhattan, travel time is approximately one and a half hours. A free shuttle service is available from Stony Brook Station to the Hilton Garden Inn at the Sony Brook University Campus. We recommend that you use Google/Apple Maps to find train and public transit directions from points in the New York/New Jersey area.
